Silver Sunday Times Crime Book of the Month, now a major BBC TV series for summer 2025

It is a sequel to Scrublands with the main protagonist Martin Scarsden—another crime he has to investigate from a journalist’s perspective. He can’t let it rest, as it could affect him. In this second book with Scarsden, the author took the chance to strengthen this character further. Compared to Scrublands I got a deeper understanding of the journalist’s actions, I like it when the characters start to live and build up. There are new personalities appearing which look promising for hopefully further stories in the future. The location was quite a change from the dusty dryness in Scrublands. Chris Hammer’s crime stories are as varied as the continent itself.
