this was absolutely an amazing book, at first I found it interesting because it is about stuff like Dracula and allbut it turned put better then expected, it was a book I couldn't put down and read and read on and on, it has some nice lgbtq+ story line and it really made me happy. so I definitely recommend it to everyone who loves dark,mystical,lgbtq+ stories

A quick read and an intoxicating mixture of beautiful and atmospheric writing with a dark, almost horrifying story underneath; a story about love, sacrifice and power. (And a story about the brides of Dracula..? Who could resist?) I highly enjoyed every chapter. If you’re looking for something almost poetic, dark and unusual, this is the book for you, although I would NOT recommend this book to anyone under the age of 14.

Dark and beautiful in its hope and despair, love and inevitable tragedy! This was recommended to me by the algorithm after finishing "House of Hunger" (A. Henderson) and it fits in with it really well. Despite it being in the YA category, there was a heavy darkness in here. Themes of sisterhood and resilience are explored to their bittersweet depths until the tragic end and bloody aftermath. Beside its beautiful design, one of its best qualities is the immersive, sometimes poetic prose and the world that seems bigger than just our story. I loved the creepy yet magical forests, hated the cruel villages. It gets 4.5 stars from me, for slight struggles in the beginning that could've had a bit more fine tuning. Beware that the mentioned enslavement is explicitly and quite bluntly written and that actions have rough consequences in this novel. I'd recommend it to older teens/adults, not younger teens, personally. It's a great gothic novel with a bit of f/f romance and heavy discussion material. Definitely worth the read!

Ein durchaus packender Fantasy-Roman über die Zwillinge Lil und Kizzy, die mit ihrem Volk als Reisende durch die Berge ziehen als sie von den Männern eines Grafen verschleppt werden und plötzlich Sklaven sind. Doch eine größere Gefahr steht noch im Raum, denn der Meister des Grafen ist ein skrupelloser Prinz, der Menschenblut trinkt und vielleicht ein Auge auf die wunderschöne Kizzy werfen könnte. Der Schreibstil erzählt aus Lils Sicht und ist angenehm detailreich und malerisch, was sehr gut zur leicht düsteren, brutalen Atmosphäre der Geschichte passt. Das Setting ist wirklich gelungen, auch wenn die Story einen leider etwas zwiegespalten zurücklässt; einerseits bleibt es durchgehend interessant und man fühlt sich mitgerissen, andererseits wird ein Großteil der Handlung schon im Klappentext verraten und richtig spannend wird es erst auf den letzten Seiten. Dennoch sind die Charaktere relativ gut ausgearbeitet und aus irgendeinem Grund fühlt man auch die Lovestory zwischen Lil und Mira voll. Insgesamt also definitiv eine Empfehlung für Fans düsterer Fantasy-Stories und Dracula-Retellings. Zwar ist vieles etwas vorhersehbar, aber der unbeschreibbare Charme des Buches lullt einen ein und man fühlt sich sehr gut unterhalten.
