i think a lot of people who say they didn’t like this book just didn’t get it. the whole point is that you’re not supposed to agree with the male narrators. they’re unreliable, collectively awful, and that’s literally the point. the book is about being a teenage girl whose struggles are dismissed because of her gender and age. it’s about misogyny, about being used, belittled, and not taken seriously. you see it all through the men’s eyes, and the point is to recognize how wrong and shallow their perspective is. the writing is gorgeous, hazy, vague, stream-of-consciousness. it’s the ultimate example of the male gaze, and it makes the gender dynamics fascinating. honestly, it’s such a good book. jeffrey eugenides is extremely talented

Der ganze Vibe, all die Emotionen, all die Erfahrungen der Mädchen, all der Schmerz, die sie erleben mussten. Das ganze war für mich so unvorstellbar krass und gleichzeitig so intensiv. Und das ganze aus der Perspektive der Jungs und der Menschen um die herrum. Ich kann das Buch wirklich jedem empfehlen, es hatte alles was ich erwartet hab. Ich liebe all die Schwestern mit meinem ganzen Herz. Ich konnte so eine krasse Bindung zu dem Buch aufbauen. Außerdem hat es noch so viele wichtigen Themen, die das Buch beinhaltet. Sowas wie psychische Gewalt, häusliche Gewalt, sexuelle Ausnutzung, PTSD und Depressionen. Ich liebe es, vor allem, weil es in den 80 spielt, wo noch nicht alles selbstverständlich war. Kann ich nur weiterempfehlen, auch wenn es mich zum weinen gebracht hat und das mehrmals.
