Bringt ernste Themen auch jungen Leuten nahe

Steffi am 21.03.2023

Bewertungsnummer: 1905503

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Ich hab das Buch zu Unizwecken gelesen, meine Dozentin fand das Buch auch sehr interessant. Inhaltlich ist es packend und durch die wechselnden Perspektiven mal was anderes.

What first world countries usually take for granted quickly turns into a luxury item when Southern California experiences what becomes known as the tap-out. There's no more water. This book follows a handful of teenagers who find themselves in the middle of a crisis of catastrophic proportions. Having to fend for themselves they work together to get their hands on enough water to stay alive. But tragedy not only brings out the best, but also the worst in people and soon friends turn into enemies as dehydration and desperation make them lose their sanity. To me, "Dry" by father-son duo Neal and Jarrod Shusterman was a pretty tough read. I was only in a couple of chapters when I first had to put it down due to frustration and agitation. Don't get me wrong, in this case that's a good thing. The Shustermans wrote a story that captivated and shocked me, gave me hope and tore it down again, in short: I was totally invested in the story. I think what makes this book so special is that this horrible scenario is more realistic toaday than ever. It really shows how climate change can manifest itself and will leave nobody cold. What I probably enjoyed most about this book is that you can really see the change in people. There's no already established dystopian society, it all goes south within just a few days and all that is depicted very comprehensibly and realistically. The characters, I wasn't particularly fond of, but I see how this may be due to the situation they find themselves in and the actions they need to take because of that. I highly recommend "Dry" to teenagers and adults alike.
