One Way

If you'd comitted a crime so severe that you would not live to see the outside of your prison ever again, but someone offered you to serve your sentence on Mars instead of in a sad little cell, what would you do? Frank Kittridge is one of seven convicts who take the opportunity to serve their prison sentences on Mars. They are rushed through the preparation process in just a few months and are shipped off to the red planet in a matter of months. Once there, their job is to build a base from scratch, but as if the planet itself wasn't hostile enough, matters take a turn for the worse when someone starts killing them off one by one. Who is the perpetrator and who will be able to survive? I find the idea behind this novel to be very intriguing and enjoyed reading it quite a bit. Even so, I have to admit that also had my problems with it. For one, I am somewhat technologically challenged and therefore did not quite understand everything that is going on in this book. To be fair, the author explains a lot of the scientific stuff, but it is just not my area of expertise. Furthermore, I am of the opinion that the story is pretty slow in the beginning. I get why the author chose to tell the story the way he did, but I wish that he would have picked up the pace a lot sooner. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy thrillers as well as science fiction novels. If you are even just a little bit more versed in the subject matter than I am, i am sure that you will love "One Way".
