Although the story takes place in the same universe as the Anno Dracula series, it more resembles Harry Potter than the vampire saga. There is far less blood and violence involved, so I found it easier and more enjoyable to read. The heroes are school girls with unusual abilities, who try to resolve a supernatural mystery. As a reader, I felt involved in the puzzle solving process myself and sometimes found it difficult to stop reading. I also appreciated the message of the book - staying true to yourself and accepting what you are as the best way to deal with difficult situations (or to save the world). On the other hand, I was rather disappointed with the last part of the book, in which the heroes solve problems and learn to cooperate on the way. Although this part is an interesting demonstration of the group dynamics, it slows down the action at the same time and makes reading far less thrilling than it could be. In addition, the author is not consistent in the way be refers to the characters - sometimes he uses their first names, sometimes the last names or nick names - so, it is not always easy to follow.
