Rezension

A book about witches with no owls and not a pair of round spectacles in sight. The new Hunger Games, I suspect... Brilliant and utterly compelling - I loved it. Kate Atkinson, author of Life after Life and Behind the Scenes of the Museum

This book is so bad. Like mind-blowing bad. The kind of bad where you contemplate calling Penguin and asking whether they've ever actually read the book before publishing it. I'm not going to go into too much detail because people apparently care about spoilers, but know that the ending will hurt, really, really, REALLY badly. Mostly because it's so unnecessary, kind of disgusting and unrealistic. I have 10 main, spoilery points in my Goodreads review, which is an insane number considering these are only the main points I could still remember after probably a month after reading this horrible book. The writing and characterization is so inconsistent, Nathan acts without thinking, characters are redeemed that have absolutely no reason to be redeemed, some other character is suddenly apparently immune to lightning, Nathan never ever learns to actually use his powers or does anything useful with them, there is so much useless cruelty towards the end, a character that I considered Nathan's friend is killed off page and basically never mentioned again. Just... I don't see the point of this book and especially not the ending. I already got rid of these books and as soon as I've written this review I'll never think of this series again and I'll probably also never pick up any other book Sally Green writes.
