Feel the heat emanating from the sculpture, the glass has not yet cooled down but the various colours are already visible and portray the flowery pigments of spring. After a cold winter, everyone in Venice welcomes the Spring season, Brunetti is one of them. Those beautiful flowers are not the only ones sprouting from the earth, a horrendous crime emerges too. Committed on the island of Murano and somehow connected to the chemical pollution accusations. Commissario Brunetti and Inspettore Vianello must find a way to see through those artistic glass sculptures to build a case. To achieve this, they have to go back in time. It never gets boring reading Brunetti’s cases. In every novel, the fascination ignites anew. Usually, it’s more centred in Venice, but in Through a Glass Darkly, the author includes the island Murano, a place she hasn’t mentioned that much so far. Although still in Venice, it gave the story a flair for something new. I have read all the previous books in order and I like how the characters progressed so far. They are always easy to read with a sophisticated plot and an ending you couldn’t have thought of.
