Truman Capotes Debut ist gerade im Original keine einfache Leseerfahrung. Der Coming-of-Age Roman schwankt zwischen surrealen Einschüben und sehr realistischen Passagen, entbehrt dabei aber nicht einer gewissen Faszination. Sprachlich ist die Erzählung jedenfalls auf sehr hohem Niveau und nach einem Blick in die Biographie des Autors auch zugänglicher.
