Oral hygiene plays a major role in maintenance and promotion of oral health. Maintenance of natural dentition throughout life is influenced by the adequate daily removal of dental plaque. Bacterial plaque has an important role in the etiology of dental caries, gingivitis and periodontitis. The challenge for oral hygiene promotion is effective delivery of these measures combined with effectual motivation of individuals and communities to aspire to oral health.
