Soon after the mysterious, sudden death of wealthy Lord Deveril his will is found - turning his last, young, and naive fiancée Clarissa Greystone into his heiress. But major George Hawkinville, recently returned from war, was always told by his father, that the title and possessions of Lord Deveril should be rightfully his. So who is this unknown fiancée, who could turn the old and nasty Lord Deveril into a lovesick fool to make her his heiress? She certainly must be a perfect witch who ruthlessly uses her wiles on unsuspecting men! Maybe she is even a murderess and helped the sudden death to come along at a convenient time! So George must only prove the murder and he will become the new, rightful Lord Deveril. But as soon as he gets to know the new heiress, his world is turned upside down by a pair of innocent looking blue eyes.......... As usual Jo Beverley delivers an exciting, fast going, interesting story with a nice plot, amiable characters and appearances of some rogues of her "company of rogues-series". This book can be read and appreciated on its own, but if you want to know more about the protagonists you should read the other books in her rogues-series, at least "The Unwilling Bride", that will give you a nice background on how the will was created and why.
