The Great Sahara: Wanderings South Of The Atlas Mountains (1860) is a travelogue written by Henry Baker Tristram about his journey through the Sahara Desert in North Africa. Tristram, a British clergyman and naturalist, embarked on this expedition in 1858 with the aim of exploring the flora, fauna, and geology of the region. The book is divided into several chapters, each describing Tristram's experiences in a different part of the Sahara. He begins his journey in Tangier, Morocco, and travels southwards through the Atlas Mountains, encountering various tribes and nomads along the way. Tristram describes the harsh living conditions of the desert, including the scarcity of water and the intense heat.Throughout the book, Tristram provides detailed descriptions of the plants and animals he encounters, including several species of birds and reptiles that were previously unknown to Europeans. He also describes the customs and traditions of the local tribes, including their dress, food, and religious practices. The Great Sahara: Wanderings South Of The Atlas Mountains provides a fascinating glimpse into the Sahara Desert and the people who call it home. Tristram's vivid descriptions and keen observations make this book a valuable resource for anyone interested in the natural history and culture of North Africa. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
