Sonnets, Original And Translated is a collection of poems written by Charles Johnston and published in 1823. The book contains a total of 54 sonnets, with 27 being original works by Johnston and the remaining 27 being translations of sonnets by various European poets, including Petrarch and Shakespeare. The sonnets in the collection cover a wide range of themes, including love, nature, mortality, and spirituality. Johnston's original sonnets often explore the complexities of human relationships and emotions, while his translations showcase his ability to capture the essence of the original works in English. The book also includes a preface by Johnston, in which he reflects on the sonnet form and its history, as well as his own approach to writing and translating sonnets. Overall, Sonnets, Original And Translated is a thoughtful and well-crafted collection of poetry that showcases Johnston's skill as a writer and translator. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
