On The Philosophy Of Ethics: An Analytical Essay is a philosophical work written by Simon Somerville Laurie and first published in 1866. The book explores the nature of ethics and moral philosophy, examining the different theories and approaches that have been put forward throughout history. Laurie takes a critical and analytical approach to these theories, examining their strengths and weaknesses and offering his own insights and arguments. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of ethical philosophy. Laurie begins by examining the nature of ethics itself, exploring the question of what ethics is and what it seeks to achieve. He then goes on to examine various ethical theories, including utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. He considers the arguments for and against each theory, and offers his own analysis and critique.Throughout the book, Laurie engages with some of the most important thinkers in the history of philosophy, including Aristotle, Kant, and Bentham. He also considers more contemporary thinkers, such as John Stuart Mill and Henry Sidgwick. The book is written in a clear and accessible style, making it suitable for both students and general readers with an interest in philosophy.Overall, On The Philosophy Of Ethics: An Analytical Essay is a comprehensive and insightful exploration of ethical philosophy. It offers a valuable contribution to the ongoing debate about the nature of ethics and the best way to approach moral decision-making.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
