    Beautiful classic

I watched the movie first and was hoping for the book to be good … What can I say? I liked it even more! It is such a beautiful “Alice in wonderland”-like tale that adds a darker and thus deeper touch to the idea of “girl escaping into a world behind a portal” theme. It is a good read full of wisdom that will be enjoyed by children as well as adults. (I was also happy to find an interesting comment by the author at the end of the book, telling us more about the idea and working process behind “Coraline”.)

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

Coraline discovered the door a little while after they moved into the house.

Although there are some things one could niggle about, that the book is not at all scary or that the emotions of the characters especially Coraline's are not well described, we all should too keep in mind that 'Coraline' is a children's book. I don't say that only children are allowed to read this book but I'm saying that Neil Gaiman wrote it for his daughters. So the thought behind this book was that kids of 8-12 years of age will mainly read his story. And if I keep that in mind 'Coraline' is extremely creepy. It also is amazingly written and tells a fantastic story full of bravery and the love of a little girl towards her real family. Besides all that the journey of Coraline inside this other world is a fantastic story to read. This world has moving toys, talking animals, an evil mother, ghosts, dog-bats and big black buttons. I also really enjoy the thought of a mouse orchestra and because of that I loved that one scene in the movie that was directed by Henry Selick!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    gehört hier nicht hin aber:

Nach 3 Bestellungen gebe ich nun die Hoffnung auf, ein Exemplar ohne Knicke und Risse zu bekommen. Schade… mal wieder… Die Geschichte ist aber wunderschön und fesselnd. Ein Buch (wirklich) für Klein und Groß.

dark and creepy in the best way

Coraline is a young girl who feels very bored in her family‘s new flat and goes exploring. She stumbles across a door that leads her to another flat that looks exactly like her own. Only it’s different. The „other“ parents are already waiting on the other side…
