With dreams of paying back the kindness of her adopted family, Sue agrees to the plan. Once in, however, Sue begins to pity her helpless mark and care for Maud Lilly in unexpected ways...But no one and nothing is as it seems in this Dickensian novel of thrills and reversals.

Nothing is how its seems... And not only today were women struggling with feelings to other women... It was strange and exciting to read such a heartbreaking thrilling story.
But I wonder: Do every queer person in Mrs Waters novels have to suffer? My heart...

ein Buch voller Intrigen und überraschender Wendungen, gegen Ende zog sich die Geschichte leider etwas, aber vielleicht lag das einfach daran, dass ich unbedingt wissen wollte wie die Geschichte ausgeht.
