""The Angel in the House"" is a collection of poems by Coventry Patmore, first published in 1854. The title poem is a long, narrative poem that tells the story of a happy marriage between a man and a woman. The poem is written in a sentimental style and celebrates the virtues of domesticity, particularly the role of women as wives and mothers. The collection also includes a number of shorter poems that explore similar themes. Patmore's work was popular in its time and was seen as a celebration of Victorian values, particularly the idea of the ""angelic"" woman who is devoted to her family and home. However, the book has also been criticized for its narrow view of women's roles and its lack of attention to issues of social justice and equality. Despite these criticisms, ""The Angel in the House"" remains an important work of Victorian literature and a fascinating window into the values and beliefs of the era.Once more I came to Sarum Close, With joy half memory, half desire, And breathed the sunny wind that rose And blew the shadows o'er the Spire, And toss'd the lilac's scented plumes, And sway'd the chestnut's thousand cones, And fill'd my nostrils with perfumes, And shaped the clouds in waifs and zones. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
