Hiero is a philosophical treatise written by the ancient Greek philosopher, Xenophon. The book is a dialogue between Hiero, the tyrant of Syracuse, and Simonides, a poet. In the dialogue, Hiero expresses his dissatisfaction with his life as a ruler and his inability to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Simonides responds by offering him advice on how to find happiness and fulfillment in his life, arguing that true happiness comes from living a virtuous life and cultivating meaningful relationships with others.Throughout the book, Xenophon explores the themes of happiness, virtue, and the nature of power. He argues that true happiness cannot be found through the acquisition of wealth or power, but rather through living a virtuous life and cultivating meaningful relationships with others. He also suggests that the nature of power is inherently corrupting, and that those who wield it are often unable to find true happiness.Overall, Hiero is a thought-provoking and insightful work that offers a unique perspective on the nature of power, happiness, and the human condition. It is a must-read for anyone interested in philosophy, politics, or the complexities of the human experience. While of tyrants, many have been murderers of their own children, many by their children murdered. Many brothers have been murderers of one another in contest for the crown;many a monarch has been done to death by the wife of his bosom. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
