This collection of short stories reflect the work of Capote in a very sincere way. True to his style he reflects real-life situations in blunt, straight prose. At the heart of the book we find the piece "Handcarved Coffins" which reveals insights of a criminal's mind. "Beautiful Child" was inspired by the author's encounter with Marilyn Monroe. In most stories we find dazzling situations seeming so strange but described so realistically that the reader is no longer puzzled but taken aback by the more than astonishing descriptions. Capote's writing surprises as well as touches with its miniatures revealing crucial moments of what life has to offer.
