Anne Rice verwebt meisterlich ihre Handlungsfäden mit zu einem gelungenem Abschluss. Nach dem Ende von Lasher widmet sich die Handlung ganz den Hexen und den letzten Taltos, die versuchen eine Verschwörung innerhalb des Talamasca-Ordens aufzuklären. Dabei machen alle Charaktere, besonders die Hexen, nochmal eine interessante Entwicklung durch aufgrund der traumatischen Ereignisse in ihrer Vergangenheit. Rice beherrscht ihr Handwerk und lädt mit ihrem meisterlichen Schreibstil zum Mitfiebern und genießen ein. Taltos entführt uns Leser nochmal ins verwunschene New Orleans, die mystischen schottischen Highlands, das verschneite New York und die geheimnisvollen Labyrinthe von Louisianas Bayous. Die Saga um die Mayfair Hexen endet mit magischer Rache, Wiedergeburt und der ganzen Wahrheit über den Mythos jener Wesen die Taltos genannt werden.
