Kilty Pleasures

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

"Outlander" is the first installment of the series by the same name, that offers the perfect mix of romance, adventure, tragedy, comedy, history and fantasy. Due to World War II Claire hasn't seen her husband Frank in about six years. So when the war is finally over they decide to go on a second honeymoon in order to reconnect. Little did Claire expect to trigger some powerful magic and be transported into the past just by touching some old Standing Stones, but that's exactly what happens. Stranded in the Scottish Highlands in 1743 Claire desperately wants to return back home, but that's not that easy when everybody in this strange time and place accuses you of being a spy and subsequently doesn't let you out of their sight. In her time of need Claire turns to the young and handsome highlander Jamie Fraser for help. But the only one who might be able to help her disappear slowly turns into a reason to stay... Since I watched the first season of the TV series before reading the books I already knew what kind of story I was going into. Even so, I enjoyed reading "Outlander" immensely. The story is exciting, funny, at times very dramatic and in over 850 pages not once boring. The characters are very well defined and Diana Gabladon knows how to make the reader both love them fiercely and hate them passionately. If you enjoy a diverse story in a historical setting and with a magical twist I recommend you pick up this book. I for my part am looking forward to reading the sequel to find out how Claire's journey continues.
