This work analyzes in detail the issue of the
extension of Greek territorial waters more than six
nautical miles in the Aegean Sea. Although Greece and
Turkey have different understandings of it, this
matter constitutes the basis for other maritime
disputes between the two States. There are a number
of general studies on the Aegean disputes between
Greece and Turkey in the International Relations and
International Law literatures. Different from those
other accounts, this research solely focuses on the
extent of the Greek territorial waters dispute and
the problem related to the delimitation of maritime
boundaries between Greece and Turkey with an aim to
provide settlement proposals. While doing this, it
studies the historical roots of the conflicts,
analyzes the claims of the parties from a legal and
political point of view, and presents new approaches
to understand and solve the disputes.
