This work is an attempt to relate Linguistic Science to Literary Science. The goal is to demonstrate that the analytical tools of linguistics may provide fresh insights into the reading and interpretation or appreciation of literary works, such as J.P.Clark's Song of a Goat.The Speech Acts theories are employed in our analysis of the utterances of Ebere and Masseur. Dr Joseph Babasola Osoba is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos where he teaches courses in English Linguistics. His reseacher interest includes sociolinguistics, pragmatics, phonetics and phonology, applied linguistics and communication skills.
