The subject of this study is an evaluation of the environmental impact of integrating traditional design elements of courtyard houses to conventional (non-courtyard) houses for the case study of the hot semi-arid climate of Erbil city, Iraq. A computer simulation (IESVEVE) is applied to measure specific parameters that can be classified as follows: thermal analysis, solar gain, solar shading with daylight and airflow patterns; and generally to explore the total energy required for house cooling and heating, and the impact of the CO2 emissions of the house. Produktbeschreibung
This study is carried out in three stages: The first stage aims to compare a traditional courtyard and non-courtyard or conventional single house in terms of thermal performance. At the second stage, there are three phases: in each phase a selected traditional design element is integrated into the conventional base case model. The final stage is a comparison of each the phases with the base case conventional model in order to investigate the total reduction of energy consumption.
