Es ist mir klar geworden wie extrem wichtig die Aufklärung war. Wo in diesem riesigen Meer sind die feindlichen Schiffe? Immer wieder Fehlalarme, jedesmal wurden Flugzeuge ausgesandt mit dem Risoko, nicht zurückzufinden oder im Sturm abstürzen. Riffe mit Brandung wurden fälschlicherweise als Flugzeugträger gedeutet und schon wieder müssen Flugzeuge losgeschickt werden. Die Schwierigkeit des Startens und Landens auf dem Träger, die vielen Unfälle, die es allein schon bei den Suchflügen gegeben hat ,ohne dass man in die Nähe des Feindes kam.
Die hoffnungslosen ersten Angriffe der Dive Bomber und der Torpedo Flugzeuge auf die japanischen Flugzeugträger, wobei in ihrem langsamen endlosen Anflug fast alle Flugzeuge von japanischen Jägern abgeschossen wurden. eine Situation, wie sie entmutigender nicht sein konnte.
Die Unterschiede der japanischen Mentalität im Vergleich zur amerikanischen wurden sehr gut herausgearbeitet. Japanische Jagdflugzeuge sind schneller und wendiger als die amerikanischen haben aber keinerlei Panzerung. Der Japanische Pilot war nur auf Angriff programmiert, Verteidigung hatte wenig Bedeutung. Die amerikanischen Flugzeuge dagegen waren gepanzert und konnten viel mehr Beschuss aushalten. Ausserdem haben die Amerikaner von jedem Kampf gelernt und gingen immer systematischer vor.
Ich habe jedes Wort dieses Buches genauestens aufgenommen. Ich glaube jetzt die Kriegshandlungen der Schlacht um Midway zu verstehen.
