The Rev. Dr. Larry A. Maxwell is Chaplain for the Patterson Fire Department as well as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Fire Police Officer. He is a also a chaplain for the Putnam Westchester Fire Police Association and a member of the New York State Fire Chaplains Association. He is an award winning journalist and author of more than 20 books including: Now and Then Putnam County New York, written for Putnam County's Bicentennial. He wrote the book and screenplay, Sybil Rides the True Story of Sybil Ludington the Female Paul Revere, the Danbury Raid and the Battle of Ridgefield. Daniel G. Ludington, one of the founding members and past president of the Patterson Fire Department, as well as his father, Henry S. Ludington, our first Chief, are both related to Sybil. He is a historian and popular conference speaker. He serves as the official Town Historian for the Town of Patterson. That role was also filled by department member Fire Police Lieutenant John Bodor. Dr. Maxwell also served as the Chairman of the Company of Military Historians at West Point. He is also a historical advisor for the History Channel and for the New York State Department of Parks and Recreation. Dr. Maxwell has served as the Pastor at the Patterson Baptist Church for more than 26 years. Some of the founding members of the department, including Junia Dykeman, Chief and the first President of the Patterson Fire Department, were members of that church.
