Tanweer Alam, PhD, is Director of the Indian Institute of Packaging, Mumbai, India. Before joining IIP, he was a member of the teaching faculty at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, SHUATS, Allahabad, and Jiwaji University, Gwalior, India. He has been working for more than a decade at different academic institutions and is also involved in the teaching of graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. His doctoral research work at the prestigious National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, India, was based on modified atmosphere packaging of food products. He visited the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, under a faculty exchange program funded by the European Union under the East-West Food Project. He has participated in INTERPACK, Dusseldorf, Germany, and was a jury member for the Asia Star and World Star awards. Dr. Alam has organized several national and international conferences and workshops for promoting the packaging industry. He has published research and technical articles in high-impact refereed journals and has delivered invited lectures both in India and abroad. He has also published book chapters and has edited dozens of proceedings and technical souvenirs. He is Associate Editor of the Asian Journal of Dairy Science and the Journal of Postharvest Technology, Managing Editor of the Journal of Packaging Technology and Research, and an editorial board member of the magazine Processed Food Industry.
