Malting barley grain of uniform size should contain husk below 11 % and have the ability to have faster and uniform germination.Malting barley is usually lower in protein which shows more uniform germination, needs shorter steeping, and has less protein in the extract that can make beer cloudy. The available six-row barley have higher husk and less carbohydrate that results in a poor malt quality. The trial with nitrogen and Sulphur on malt barley varieties conducted at RARI, Jaipur, India suggest that the two-row barley variety RD 2849 with application of 90 kg N ha-1 and 10 kg S ha-1 proved the most efficient and economically viable treatment which was found most effective for better malt quality in terms of all growth parameters (plant height, dry matter accumulation, CGR, RGR).
