The base is home to a number of Navy-operated Maritime patrol aircraft. The base is scheduled for closure in 2011, as per the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure committee decision. As of November 28, 2009, the last aircraft (P-3 Orions) took off, never to return. On Friday January 30, 2010 a NOTAM was sent out that runways at NAS Brunswick were now closed and shortly there after the runways were Xed out.
