This book examines history and educational development since pre-colonial time and traces the genesis and consolidation of western education in East Africa looking at some selected issues at different educational levels, namely primary, secondary and higher educational cycles. The book further highlights policies which shaped and guided some educational practices within each particular East African countries. The rise and consolidation of English Medium Schools particularly in Tanzania is narrated as a special case and in the other East African countries of Kenya and Uganda a brief description is also attempted where English overrides Kiswahili in terms of domains of use is briefly highlighted. The book should not be considered as a comprehensive material but rather serves as a useful material to trigger more explorations and discussion among student teachers undertaking courses related to History of Education as well as Comparative and International Education. It is also useful to other education stakeholders at large as it shades light regarding the past, present and future about educational aspects.
Autorenporträt
Mr. Abdallah Jacob Seni, holds Dip. Education, BA Ed (Hons.), MA (Ed.) and currently he is undertaking his PhD studies. He has taught mostly at secondary and University levels. As from 2002 to 2008, he taught at Mwasayi Secondary School and from 2008 to-date served as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dodoma, College of Education.
