Wendy Algernon Atherley commenced his working career as a food service waiter and then spent thirteen years as a policeman. He then worked in the government service and later in the private sector as a management accountant, before working for twenty years in the banking industry as internal auditor and later as a credit recoveries officer. He is a member of the Church of the Nazarene and served as a Sunday school teacher for several years.
