The book is devoted to a number of topical problems of literary historiography. The author focuses on key issues in the history of scientific literary criticism of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, different principles and approaches to literature, the methodological disputes between different directions. The book consists of two sections. The first consists of essays highlighting some blind spots in the characterization of several schools of literary studies, their genesis and development. The second section contains essays on a number of prominent scholars of literary history and theory whose work has undeservedly been neglected in recent years. The book is addressed to experts in literary criticism, students of philology and all readers with a serious interest in the fate of literary thought.
