A field experiment was conducted at Main Agricultural Research Station, Raichur on medium black soil during rabi season of 2015-16 to study the performance of safflower and linseed intercropping system under rainfed condition. Safflower (S-144) and linseed (NL-115) were intercropped in 1:1, 1:2, 2:1 and 2:2 row proportion and both crop were grown in sole crops at their recommended spacing (60 cm for safflower and 30 cm for linseed). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design and replicated thrice. Among all treatments, significantly higher straw yield was recorded in sole linseed. Significantly lower straw yield was noticed in mixed cropping of safflower + linseed as compared to the rest of the treatment combinations. Among intercropping system, safflower + linseed (1:2) recorded higher straw yield. The safflower equivalent yield (SEY) was significantly higher in safflower + linseed (1:2) followed by safflower + linseed (1:1). Significantly lower SEY was recorded in safflower + linseed (2:1).
