Lisa Patel Stevenshas published refereed journal articles in top reading research journals exploring practical, research, and policy issues surrounding critical literacy. She has also conducted dozens of professional development sessions on the use of critical literacy in the classroom; these sessions have provided rich opportunities to participate in the complicated implementation of critical literacy with teachers across schooling levels and backgrounds. This experience helps to inform the praxis tone of this book. Stevens is an experienced researcher and practitioner in the area of reading and literacy education. She has co-authored (with Thomas Bean) several chapters on reading and literacy.
Thomas W. Beanhas published refereed articles in top reading journals exploring the use of literature with critical literacy and documenting expanded uses of text in an information age. Beans work in the field of reading and literacy is extensive and well respected, particularly for his expertise in the use of multicultural literature with secondary students. His is the author of books, including Targeted Reading: Improving Reading Achievement In Middle And Secondary Grades (Kendall Hunt); Content Area Literacy: An Integrated Approach 8/e (Kendall Hunt). Bean is an experienced researcher and practitioner in the area of reading and literacy education. He has co-authored (with Lisa Patel Stevens) several chapters on reading and literacy.
