The emergence of five Central Asian Republics (CARs) - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan - following the Soviet collapse not only created a peculiar geopolitical and geostrategic situation, but also heralded in insurmountable challenges.
