Black Elected Officials presents a statistical account of the trends and status of Black elected officials in the United States between 1993 and 1997. The study breaks down the data, which shows that over that period, the number of Black elected officials grew by eight percent, with the greatest increase lying in the field of education. Also clarified are the tremendous differences over the different regions of the country, since the majority of the increases took place in the Southern states, while the number of Black elected officials actually decreased in the west.
