Incidence of type II DM is becoming of increasing importance and major concern not only in India but across world. 70% of the cases of diabetes occur in low and middle income countries. With estimated 50.8 million people living with type 2 DM, India has the world s largest diabetes population followed by China with 43.2 million.. In view of high prevalence of type 2 diabetes in India it is essential to look for any association of different gene polymorphism with type 2 diabetes. The is aimed to detecting and its role in increasing the susceptibility to diabetes in the Northern India population. Further studies will show whether all these association and patho-physiological aspects of the studied gene and its basic geno and phenol type will lead to a better understanding of hypertension and/ or improved pharmacological interventions. The finding could help to identify at risk patients at an stage and may provide opportunities for early prevention.
