The project is an explanatory research investigating the status and future of the rural development of a mountainous region in Cyprus. The primary objective was to stimulate the economically depressed region by developing its productive resources and by improving its social and institutional services, in order for rural exodus to be controlled and rural population to remain in their communities. A methodological research approach called triangulation was used, in order to gather primary information for analysis from three focus groups. [Farmers, Moukhtars (community leaders) and Migrants]. The analysis of the research findings and the clarification of its issues, produced the final outcome of the survey, which is a set of recommendations that have real potential of implementation for the socioeconomic development of the region. This will be presented and brought to the attention of the pertinent stakeholders for materialization and for the development of the region.
