Koontz konnte sich nicht entscheiden, was er schreiben wollte: Krimi oder Horror oder Tragikkomödie. Die einzig halbwegs ausgearbeiteten Charaktere sind Odd und seine große Liebe Stormy, der Rest ist blaß: Furchtbar nette und liebe, natürlich auch extrem schrullige Freunde, gaanz furchtbar
unsympathische Eltern und bitterböse Satanisten.... Aber alle bleiben blaß, nur Staffage. Aber alle bleiben blaß, nur Staffage. Ein Phänomen besonderer Art in letzter Zeit in US-Literatur sind die simplen und naiven zahlreichen Verweise auf Gott, Gottes Willen, Gottes Liebe, dazu paßt noch das selbsternannte "Zölibat" von Odd und seiner Liebe des Lebens - bloß kein Sex vor der Ehe, ist doch nicht das wichtigste im Leben (sagt ein 20jähriger). Nette Kost für ein verregnetes Wochenende, Fast Food, mehr nicht !
