Mit seiner Filmnarratologie bietet Markus Kuhn einen umfassenden, systematischen und zugleich anwendungsorientierten Entwurf einer Erzähltheorie des Spielfilms. Das Buch hat insofern "Pionierstatus", als es zum medienspezifischen Erzählen im Film bislang zwar Ansätze und Teiluntersuchungen gibt, eine Systematik im Sinne eines theoretisch schlüssigen Analysemodells von großer Reichweite jedoch noch ausstand. Der hohe Nutzen liegt einerseits in der konzisen Aufarbeitung der Forschungslage und ihrer Platzierung innerhalb der Erzählforschung und andererseits in der Entwicklung eines bewusst anwendungsorientierten Modells zur narratologischen Filmanalyse. Unter Rückgriff auf ein umfangreiches Filmkorpus von über 200 Spielfilmen werden die theoretischen Überlegungen immer wieder praktisch überprüft und mithilfe von Beispielen und Einzelanalysen veranschaulicht. Das vorliegende Werk erweitert das Feld der Erzähltheorie auf den Spielfilm, schärft den Blick für medienspezifische Kategorien und befördert die Anwendung erzähltheoretischer Modelle in der Film- und Medienwissenschaft.
