Autorenporträt

Alice Schroeder began her career as a certified public accountant, working for Ernst & Young before being appointed as a managing director at Morgan Stanley in the equities division. She was the number 1-ranked Institutional Investor All-America Research analyst in 2001 and 2002, and a member of the All-America Research team for seven years. Schroeder first met Warren Buffett in 1998. By 2001, Buffett began to suggest that Alice shift from the business of following stocks in order to write full-time.

Der Held des Geldes
Schon richtig, es ist ein dickes Buch, über 1000 Seiten hat es, aber anders geht es nicht, wenn man das schaffen will, was Alice Schroeder geschafft hat: die erste umfassende Biographie des Investors Warren Buffett, an der er selbst mitgearbeitet hat. Buffett ließ Schroeder, einst Reporterin des Wall Street Journal, in sein Archiv, ließ sich von ihr über vier Jahre hinweg 300 Stunden lang interviewen und er ließ sie seine private und geschäftliche Korrespondenz lesen.
Das Ergebnis ist die Story eines amerikanischen Helden, wie sie heute nicht mehr möglich zu sein scheint. Es ist die Geschichte eines Menschen, der nicht mit Gier zum reichsten Mann der Welt wurde, sondern mit Geiz. Kein Wunder, dass in Zeiten der Finanzkrise „The Snowball” (so heißt das Buch in den USA), einen Monat lang an der Spitze der Bestseller-Liste der New York Times stand. Warren Buffett, 79 Jahre alt, ist einer, dem die Menschen zuhören. Einer, den sie schätzen und bewundern. Einer, dem sie vertrauen – gerade jetzt, in der Krise.
