Perlentaucher-Notiz zur NZZ-Rezension

Die Biografien und Überlegungen von 48 Frauen aus dem Musikgeschäft hat Adam Olschewski mit einigem Gewinn gelesen. Er lobt an dem ausschließlich auf Englisch veröffentlichten Buch vor allem die unterhaltsame Mischung: Den Musikerinnen gehe es darin sowohl um ihren Beruf als auch um Familienplanung, um Inspiration und Haltung, Zweifel und Widerstände. Auch eine Geschlechterdifferenz meint Olschewski aus den Texten herauslesen zu können, die Musikerinnen scheinen ihm weniger radikal als männliche Kollegen. Gerade in diesem Punkt sieht der Rezensent Diskussionsstoff, "Giving birth to sound" sei ohnehin ein "mit weitläufigen Spannungen geladenes Buch". Nicht zuletzt gefällt Olschewski auch die Gestaltung des Bandes, den er wegen seiner grafisch herausgestellten Zitate "einprägsam und farbenfroh-anmutig" findet.
