Before I Die

ausgezeichnet

In her book, “Before I die”, Jenny Downham tells an emotional story about a sixteen-year-old girl.
Two years ago Tessa got leukemia and her life changed dramatically. The doctors didn´t raise her high hopes. But she wouldn´t abandon herself to her illness, she wants to live. On the wall in her room she writes all the things down she wants to do before she dies, because her time is running out: sex, take drugs, be famous, violate the law…
Together with her friend Zoey, she tries to finalize the list. Still she notices that it isn´t easy to get what you want. The list leads to many conflicts with the law, with her family and mainly with herself.
When Adam, the boy from the neighborhood comes into her life, everything changes. He is the only one who gives her the emotion to understand her. They spend a lot of time together and experience beautiful things. They feel a strong relation to each other. But how to deal with someone, when the dead follows you? Are you allowed to love someone with only a few month of life left?

I found the book very interesting, because Jenny Downham writes emotional so that she responds the readers and in addition it is realistic. The book describes the way how someone lives with the information to die soon. Through the main character Tessa, the emotions and thoughts of a deathly sick person were good mediated to the readers.

I think the death scene in the end of the book very emotional. But to feel the same as I do, you have to read the book by your own. I like this book very much and it´s really a must read book.
So I assign this book with five stars.
