Für George Morton ist Geld eine Nebensächlichkeit. Zu den rauschenden Partys auf seinem riesigen Anwesen in Beverly Hills kommen die Stars der Filmbranche, und in seiner Garage stehen neun Ferraris. Er ist sich der Dekadenz seines Lebensstils bewußt, und um sein schlechtes Gewissen zu beruhigen hat sich der Mittsechziger leidenschaftlich dem Kampf gegen die globale Erwärmung verschrieben. Und so entschließt er sich, dem National Environmental Resource Fund zehn Millionen Dollar zu spenden, die vornehmlich in die Organisation einer Klimakonferenz fließen sollen. Doch noch bevor er den Scheck unterschrieben hat, erreicht ihn ein Anruf von seiner Bank: Die Umweltorganisation hat in seinem Namen eine viertel Million Dollar an eine Gruppe dubioser Aktivisten in Costa Rica überwiesen. Wofür nur verwenden sie sein Geld? Von einem Anti-Terror-Spezialisten der Regierung erfährt er, daß vieles auf die Planung eines gewaltigen Verbrechens hindeutet. George Morton ist entsetzt darüber, daß er mit seinem Geld den Ökoterrorismus unterstützt, begibt sich auf die Suche nach Beweisen für die Zusammenarbeit der Umweltschützer mit den Extremisten und sieht sich vor eine nahezu unlösbare Aufgabe gestellt: Er muss einen künstlich erzeugten Tsunami verhindern, der das Leben von mehreren Millionen Kaliforniern gefährdet.
