However, when a mechanical nightingale takes up residence in the palace, which can sing at any moment at the command of the king, the natural nightingale leaves. Because of this, the king is confronted with his own pride and complacency.
But when the king falls seriously ill, he realizes that a life of true beauty and art is much more important than the glitter and noise of artificial brilliance. His best medicine is the song of the nightingale, which overcomes the disease. But although the nightingale returns, it cannot stay in the palace, because it belongs to nature.
The tale also shows how pride and arrogance can distance us from true value in life.
