Born in Ia¿i, in northeastern Romania, Magda Isanos (1916-1944) was raised in Chi¿inau (in what is now Moldova) before she returned to the city of her birth to attend the University of Ia¿i. While a student there, Magda became active in the most important literary circle of the era centered around the journal Însemnari ie¿ene and developed as a poet and writer. Despite her untimely death, she ranks among the greatest poets in the history of Romanian literature.
