As the relationship between the young writer and her ex-military mentor develops, however, Wendy gets rather more than she had bargained for. The Wing Commander becomes not only her sponsor and patron but also assumes the responsibility for her discipline; correcting her failings, both literary and personal, with the aid of a rattan cane across her bare bottom.
Wendy settles into a bizarre new life in Raven's Bay; writing her novel and reporting regularly to the Wing Commander for punishment whilst all the while conducting a passionate affair, with the beautiful red haired girl who manages the Wing Commander's holiday camp, and ultimately falling into the clutches of the scheming Lady Amelia who has her own plans for the lovely Miss Carter.
