When they crossed paths with Chief Joseph of the Nez Percé tribe and a number of the Black pioneers of Oregon, it became apparent that, unlike many of the newcomers arriving on wagon trains, Newell and Meek wanted Oregon to be a home available to all. Then a baffling situation occurred that was unlike anything these fearless mountain men had ever encountered - a woman arrived from 2003.
