He was Mr Oom-pah-pah in Rainbow - one of the most famous children's programmes in the 1970s - and Tubby the Tuba, in another. He has played on a number of significant film soundtracks among them Bond films, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. and he was tuba professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for 30 years.
