As with almost all Victorian erotica it is the way the women seem to find themselves, their true sexual nature, although initially they are the victims of such crude behaviour, that is both shocking and eye-opening to a modern audience. Explicit and extraordinary in its detail of sexual misconduct, making it an erotic read.
